Broadly conical, deciduous tree often used in horticultural shelter belts. Enjoys a damp site but is drought tolerant.The leaves are rounded, deep green and shiny. Male catkins are yellowish on the ends of branches and followed by female seed cones standing up in groups of three. Very hardy.
