Description
A deciduous, hardy specimen tree popular for its dramatic autumn color and scented foliage. A broadly spreading, often multi-stemmed tree with a graceful, upright habit. Heart-shaped leaves that emerge with reddish-bronze or pinkish tones, which turn blue-green in summer and then brilliant shades of yellow, pink, red, and orange in autumn. It is widely used in NZ gardens as a feature tree, offering a distinct, sweet fragrance similar to caramel, burnt sugar, or cotton candy during autumn. Matures to about 7m tall and 5m wide in 7–10 years.
